Hawthorn & Three Hares Ritual Robe

Hawthorn and Three Hares Robe

A robe for witches, hedgecrossers, and shapeshifters

This robe is my own pattern in a kimono style that has been made with undyed handwoven hemp by the Hmong Hill Tribe (an animistic tribe from China), and it is fully lined with a softer cotton fabric. The robe has been appliqued and embroidered with hawthorn branches as well as the three hares symbol – the applique was done with wool felts, cotton thread, as well as brown linen for the hares. The hawthorn leaf toggle clasps are also handmade from the same green wool felt, and the buttons are handcrafted from a deer antler tine.

Hawthorn is well known as a mystical fairy tree that has ancient connections with the otherworld and hedgecrossing. It is a tree of magic and witchcraft, strong protective energy, and also brings happiness to the bearer. The ancient Greeks used it as a decoration at weddings and also tied branches to a newborn baby’s cradle for protection. The three hares symbol is very ancient and has been found across the world’s continents. In ancient times the hare was a very magical creature and is thus associated with the Goddess, the moon, and fertility and the cycle of life: life, death and rebirth.

The voluminous kimono style would fit a broad shouldered man or a curvy busty witch and there is room to hem it if you are a shorter person.
