Toadman’s Ointment

Toadman's OintmentA toadman is a folk magician who draws their power from toads. Toads are usually their familiar and most often this person is also a hedgecrosser. Ointments have been used by shamans and witches for goodness knows how long – some as offerings to the spirits & gods and others to travel to meet them. This ointment is used for such persons to use in specific rituals: to rub upon their brow, eyelids, third eye, throat, chest, hands or feet (but not necessarily all of them); in order to shapeshift into a toad, to walk between worlds, to see spirits, and to commune with or call a frog or toad familiar.

Toads have been held sacred and considered aids in magic for thousands of years from ancient shamanism to modern witchcraft. As amphibians they are creatures of earth, water, and air making them perfect familiar spirits for hedgecrossers, witches, and shamans.

All herbs used in this magical salve have traditional associations with these amphibians – small wet plants growing low to the ground, roots hiding in cool earth, and toadstools growing under trees. This salve is not vegan as it contains toad skin.

Ingredients: root of calamus, root of dandelion, root of skunk cabbage, flower of chamomile, leaf of enchanter’s nightshade, skin of amanita muscaria and toad, oil of grapeseed, and wax of bees.
